"Know your Ukraine": a series of videos for the educational project of the Ivan Honchar Museum

Corals, nativity scenes, toloka, cymbals, parties, Crooked dance - words that were in the lexicon of every Ukrainian 80-100 years ago, we understand quite roughly today.

The author's educational online course, initiated by the Ivan Honchar Museum, is created to correct the situation. The museum team plans to shoot a video course on traditional Ukrainian culture "Know your Ukraine" to tell in an accessible form with the help of modern technologies not only about traditional rites, dishes, clothes, folk art, but also about symbols, reasons, and meanings of traditions in everyday life.

Our team, led by the founder of our foundation Nadiia Ratke, was extremely touched by the idea of the project and gladly accepted the invitation to join its creation. To raise the necessary funds for the implementation of the course and draw attention to it, we helped shoot a series of videos with the patronage of Nadiia Ratke.

Some children try to explain the concepts of traditional Ukrainian ritual culture as they understand or imagine them. And not only children - TV presenter Oleksandr Pedan and dancer Olena Shoptenko tried to interpret words that denote concepts from traditional Ukrainian culture.

The task of the course is not to transform modern children and teenagers armed with tablets and smartphones into heroes of Ukrainian literature of the 19th century, but to add "codes" of ancestors to their "basic firmware".

Myroslava Vertyuk, its co-initiator and Deputy General Director of the Museum Ivan Honchar for Intangible Cultural Heritage, told us about the idea of the project: “The idea of creating an online course “Know Your Ukraine'' was influenced by two things: the first is my own experience and my childhood experiences. The second is my trait: everything valuable that I know, I want to share. Many of my friends next to me became interested in traditional culture. Tradition and life in tradition give me a feeling of happiness, where I feel very harmonious and whole. I need to pass this on to children, because at an early age such knowledge lies quite deep, forming the worldview and cultural matrix of the individual.

The project is currently in the process of crowdfunding on the platform, where anyone can help: http://bit.ly/3jtBXb4
